Patinas & Polishing

Ron Young designed the Metal Coatings for those who love the look of metals but don't necessarily want the cost or weight of real metal. Available in Copper B, Bronze B, Brass B, Iron B, Silver B. Type B is used for a metal appearance without high polishing and able to take patina while dry, although patinas work best while wet. Three coats are recommended for burnishing the B types.

Available 16 oz in Copper, Bronze, Brass, Silver, Iron. Gallon available in Bronze. Two coats are recommended. For extra toughness when polishing, use two coats of Type B before Type C. Type C is extra hard for polishing purposes and patinas should be applied while slightly wet.

Universal Patinas are opaque dyes with oxide pigments in solution. These can be applied hot or cold and are stable on metals. Need to seal with a clear sealer if going outside and just a coat or two of matte fixative if staying inside. Can be used as a pigment in many materials including Forton MG.

Vista Patinas are acid patinas mixed with oxide pigments resulting in a marbleized effect. On Bronze, Brass, Copper, and the Metal Coatings a marbleizing of green and the Vista color occurs. On Iron and Steel, rust and the Vista color will be the combination. These are to be applied cold only! Not for Aluminum.

Dye-Oxides are transparent dyes plus an oxide in solution. These are great for making a hot patina look with cold application. They are more compatible and longer lasting than solvent dyes. Can be applied hot or cold and are stable on all metals. Can be used as a pigment in many materials including Forton MG.

These are acid patinas that will chemically react with metals. Indoor or outdoor use.

Tiffany Green - a slow acting stable green, takes a while to react but quite worth it, cold application only.
Mint Green - a hardworking “Statue of Liberty” color, can be used hot or cold application. Some green will remain on iron & steel.
Light Green - aged green patina, cold application only.
Japanese Brown - this brown is gorgeous on iron and steel. Transparent on copper and bronze as a golden color. Applied hot or cold.
Ferric Nitrate – for bronze, brass, and copper. Hot patina only. Golds to dark browns.
Antiquing - beautifully and easily ages bronze, brass, copper, iron, and steel. Hot or cold.
Darkening Patina - exclusively for aging or darkening the Metal Coatings or Cold Cast Materials. Although it can be applied to any metal hot or cold.
Tan Patina - for bronze, copper, brass, iron, and steel. Can be used hot or cold.
Powder Blue Patina - blue patina for outdoors. Applied cold.
Blue Patina - blue patina, best for indoor use. Applied Cold.

These dyes can be used directly on metal and many other materials including glass and resin. They can be used to tint materials as well. For specific colors, the dyes can be mixed. The Reds and Blues are not suitable for outdoor use. A protective clear sealer is necessary after dyes have dried. Dyes are transparent.
